Started my own business-typing service-in 1983 that let me work from home while having kids. Moved to KS in 1987, went into Army Reserve in 1990-1st drill was invasion of Kuwait, started as Fed employee in 1990, retired from Reserves in Mar 2008. Husband died in Feb 2009 after long (11 yr) battle with cancer. Along the way we traveled a lot-all over US, Mexico (loved it), & Bahamas (wouldn't go back). Kids are so portable. Bought pool and house in July 2009 which I am now in the process of selling so I can move into a maintenance free condo. Retired from Federal Civil Service in 2016. Now have 4 grandkids.

School Story:

I'd still be in high school today if they had not made "D" a passing grade in my senior year. Home Ec was just a bear - did I really need to know how many millimeters high an egg yolk was above the white for each grade of egg? Information I didn't need then (Grandparents lived just down the street and they had chickens, you just pulled it out from under the chicken, cooked it, and ate it) and still haven't had a use for since. Not once have I felt compelled to measure the height of an egg yolk. And how about knowing what the percentage of fat standard was for each grade of meat? Most everything in the store was stamped Grade A Choice and unless the Food Inspector was a Grade A A-s, I'm pretty sure he knew what he was doing when he inspected it. I have since co-authored a cookbook with 3 of my friends and we had 2 printing runs that both sold out, so I guess I know what I'm doing in the kitchen.

One thing I loved about school-they took attendance in Home Room and last period, made it so easy to spend the day at the beach, and be back for last period. I wonder if they've fixed that?
